Handfuls of Love

“Children’s Children are the crown of all men; and the glory of children are their father.” Proverbs 17:6 {NKJ}

There is something special about grandparents. I have been blessed to have only lost one grandparent in my 30 years of life. I still have 2 wonderful grandma’s and a wonderful papa…all in their 90’s and still kickin’ loud and strong. I always tell my husband that according to my genes he is stuck with me for a looooonnnnnnggggg time. I only hope I am that blessed.

Throughout my first 16 months of parenthood I have learned the value of family and that it truly does take a village to raise a child. I couldn’t be more happy in the grandparents that our son has inherited through my husband and me. The times when I want to ship my child to Timbuktu they are always there to encourage me or relieve me of my duties for a couple of hours so I can regroup. They have been where I am before and their advice is so valuable. Plus they are the BEST babysitters {and free 😉 }.

So, when Grandparent’s Day came along I tried to think of something fun to do for them. I had seen those tutorials that are all over Pinterest where you take a porcelain cup/plate and write on it with a Sharpie; bake the plate; and viola it’s permanent. Ha…well that was a total FAIL! So, if you pinned it don’t waist your time. After that waste of time, I took a trip to Hobby Lobby and grabbed some Sharpie Paint Pens and some Martha Stewart Paint, and I used the Dollar Store white plates from the previous craft fail and started over. Here is the rundown {no pictures…I apologize…left this project until very last minute}

Handfuls of Love Painted Plate

Materials

Sharpie Oil Paint Markers {see link above}
Martha Stewart Paint {see link above}
Porcelain Plate
Baby’s/Kid’s Hands {and a helper if you have one}
Letter Stencils or Electronic Cutter {Silhouette, Cricut, etc}

Directions

1.) Decide what you want your plate to say. I decided to use Hands Down, Your the Best for one and Your the Best, Hands Down for the other. I cut mine out in vinyl on my Silhouette and used the negative space as my stencil. I put half of the saying on top and half on the bottom, leaving a space in the middle for the cute little toddler handprints.

2.) Grab your Sharpie Paint Pens and go to town. I used the black pen for my letters. The paint dries fast so once you are done with the letters you can remove your stencil. I had a little bleeding, but not much. I was able to do some touch up after the stencil was gone.

3.) Next you will need your kiddo and a helper {if you have young kids}. Squirt some of the Martha Stewart paint onto one hand spread it around. Figure out where you want the first hand print to go and smash their hand down quickly {before they decide to paint their face 😉 }. Do the same thing with the other hand.

4.) Pre-Heat your oven to 350 degrees. Once it is pre-heated put your plate in and bake for 30-35 minutes. Once this is done the paint is permanent and you are done!!

I made some Pumpkin Holes to go on my plates. I got the recipe from here and printed out labels that said I Love You a “Hole” Lot!.

Days of Thanks {6,7, & 8} + Exciting New Adventures!

Time to play some catch up:).  Here are 3 more things I am thankful for:

6.) I am thankful for sleep.  Seems so small and insignificant, but once you don’t get any you realize how much you love it.  Naps and bedtime are my favorite part of my day these days!

7.) I am thankful for my health.  I am very thankful that I am healthy.  That I have had no major health problems and the God has given me the love to run and be active.

8.) I am thankful for the ability to be a Stay-at-Home Mom.  I am thankful that my husband is willing to give up some of the “finer” things in life so that I can stay home and raise our baby.  I am thankful that he wants a wife who is willing to stay at home and encourages me every day especially when it has been a hard one.  There are definately days I wish I could go to work and hand his cranky butt to someone else, but that’s what grandparents are for ;)!

EXCITING NEW ADVENTURES

Now that Ethan is 6 months old and getting into some sort of routine…kinda…I have decided to start pursuing some things God has really been putting on my heart.  I love to be creative and I love to love and bless others.  I have started to craft more…which I love…and I have also been introduced to a way to “craft” and bless others at the same time.  I am excited to share this new endevour with everyone and see where it takes me.  As excited as I am, I am also terrified.  I am terrified of failure.  I am terrified of what others may think of me or my “things.”  I have to remind myself that everytime you take a step out of your comfort zone…there will be fear, but I have to also remember that God will be right by my side and encouraging me the whole way!

Psalm 27:1
The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?
